Cake:
1 c flour
3/4 c white sugar
2 Tbsp cocoa
2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 c water
2 Tbsp cooking oil
1 tsp vanilla
Topping:
1 c packed brown sugar
1/4 c cocoa
1 3/4 c hot water
In a bowl, mix together the dry cake ingredients.
Add the liquids and mix well.
Pour batter into an ungreased 9x9 cake pan.
In a separate bowl, mix the brown sugar and the cocoa and sprinkle over the top of the cake batter.
Pour the hot water (not boiling - just hot from the tap) over the sugar mixture. DO NOT stir. As this bakes, the batter rises to the top and the sauce will be on the bottom.
Bake at 350 for 40 minutes. Let stand for 15 minutes before serving with ice cream.
